Servus! My journey began in 2018 with SapuraOMV as a Graduate Engineer. I learnt different skillsets like teamwork and analytical skills, opening my mind to a broad spectrum of factors crucial to the daily production. I am blessed to have supportive mentors, colleagues and seniors in sharing their knowledge and guidance. This photo reminded me of my dream come true of working on a SapuraOMV offshore platform. I learnt different activities that differs from working in the office making it a transformative journey for me in skills, experience and career development. I hope that more female engineers will join the industry despite the stigma of women being in traditional roles such as homemakers. Women of today are equally adept to achieve their dreams with enough effort put into it. The sky is the limit!

The Malaysian oil and gas industry is becoming more diverse as more women engineers are entering the work force. My brother inspired me to pursue my degree in Petroleum Engineering. I joined SapuraOMV as a graduate engineer in the Development and Reservoir Engineering department in 2016. Being the only female engineer in the team, I was reserved but I was blessed with a mentor and colleagues who were very helpful and cooperative. They empowered me to capitalise my strengths, increasing my confidence as a reservoir engineer and an individual. My first fieldwork on a drilling rig was during the Drilling Campaign 2019. Although among many male engineers and contractors, I never felt intimidated as they were all open-minded and welcoming. All you need is positivity in mind and spirit, to be flexible and learn fast.

Reservoir Engineer DRE
From an introvert to an extrovert. My career in the energy sector was influenced by my father and sister who were both in the energy sector. I studied at the University of Michigan (UMICH), where my world changed when I discovered Geology and found the study of the earth to be fascinating which explains my love for rock climbing. Mindful of Mother Nature’s resources for sustainability is crucial for future generations to come. SapuraOMV’s proactive action to reduce our carbon footprint is a positive move and I am very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful team in making a positive impact for the future. To graduates, enjoy your time and be involved. Discover your motivation and say yes to opportunities. Foster good traits and they will benefit your career well. There is always room for improvement.

A positive environment in pursuing excellence paved the way for me into the Colorado School of Mines (CSM), USA. I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering and it was here that I learnt the 3 essential characteristics of surviving at any stage of your life are; good time management, resourcefulness and persistence. I successfully landed a job in SapuraOMV as a graduate Drilling Engineer with the opportunity of working offshore. To witness the complete drilling operation from start to finish which was an eye-opening and challenging experience for me especially during the monsoon season. To the students, my advice to you: be prepared. Rely on yourselves to solve problems, giving us even more immense satisfaction. Study smart, be resourceful and proactive but don’t forget to have fun too.
